About the Club

Our Story

Vladimir Trninic, who is the current water polo coach at St Johns College, Johannesburg, founded the OJ Eagles Water Polo Club. Vladimir Trninic is also an ex-professional water polo player who has even played against the likes of Manuel Estiarte ( regarded as the greatest player of all time), as well as being the ex-captain for the SA men’s team and ex-coach. No coach in South Africa has won more boy’s tournaments (30+) or men's national tournaments ( 16 Currie Cups and 16 Old Edwardians tournaments) than Vladimir Trninic has.

OJ Eagles is a wonderful success story. It has been instrumental in developing a large number of water polo players in South Africa. The club is the most successful club in the country, having won 13 Currie Cups out of the last 15 years as well as 12 Old Eds tournaments. The senior men were the winners of the SA Nationals in Durban last year as well as the local league, cup and Old Edwardians tournament.The experience that these players have gained at OJE has assisted a number of them in excelling at both Gauteng and SA National level. Currently, the squad boasts, 10 SA men's national team players, as well as 8 junior men's team players.

OJ Eagles play throughout the year. The club caters for the following groups of water polo players: Water Polo Academy - Boys and Girls aged 9-11 years Water Polo Junior Club - Boys and Girls aged 12 -14 years OJE Senior Ladies - Compete in the Premier Ladies League OJE Senior Men - Compete in the Premier Men's League (The club currently has two participating teams) A number of water polo players from schools such as The Ridge School, Jan Cilliers Primary School, Crawford College, Auckland Park Preparatory School, Roedean School (SA) and St Johns College, are registered with the club.
